Fundamental Skills Workshop

Fundamental Skills Workshops

Originally created in 2017, by LimbPower, to provide expert coaching for children who receive activity prostheses from the Children’s Activity Prosthetic Fund. There was such a demand from all limb different children/young people that these workshops are now open to all children/young people with limb difference from 4-18 years old.

So come and join LimbPower for the Fundamental Skills Workshop. These are free workshops for children and young people aged 4-18 years old with a physical impairment who wear an activity limb/prosthetic or who would like to be more active. Many children and young people who attend the workshops see them as a vital part of their rehabilitation and attend one each year.

These one-day workshops are open to both upper limb and lower limb amputees and are held across the country at different venues. Previous workshops have been held in Bath, Manchester, Sheffield, Loughborough and Stoke Mandeville amongst others. The Covid-19 pandemic did see a pause on these workshops; however, they will recommence in 2022.

Contact LimbPower if you would like to know where the Fundamental Skills Workshop will be going next or if you have an idea of a suitable venue in your area, we are always open to suggestions.

The Fundamental Skills Workshops are designed to support children, young people and their families in overcoming the physical and psychological barriers through:

  • Developing skills to help children take part in school PE and community games and activities
  • Teaching children how to use their prosthetic for activity in a fun and relaxed environment
  • Building confidence and self-esteem
  • Hosting workshops for parents to discuss how they can support their children

Children will learn the fundamental skills required to take part in school PE and community games and sports. Including throwing, catching, kicking, running, jumping, skipping and hopping. Each child who takes part will receive a fundamental skills certificate for the level they are working on. When they achieve the acquired level, they will receive a badge to show their progress. There are six levels to progress through.

All the exercises are adapted by expert coaches for child amputees and children with limb difference. LimbPower run four workshops a year and places are limited to 20 children/young people per workshop so PLEASE book early to avoid disappointment.
